Haryana election: BJP ahead of Congress but trails in vote share

The BJP has crossed the halfway mark in Haryana, leading in 49 seats as of 12.30 pm, while Congress is behind with 35 seats. However, according to the Election Commission, Congress’s vote share stood above that of the saffron party.
The Congress vote was 40.25 per cent while that of the BJP stood at 39.29 per cent at the time of publishing this report.
In the 2019 election, the vote share of the NDA, which also included Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), was 36 percent, while Congress’s vote share was 28.08 percent. The current trend, therefore, shows a considerable jump in Congress’s vote share compared to that of the saffron party.
The BJP is likely to form a government in Haryana for the third consecutive term, contrary to many exit polls’ predictions. As per the current trends, the BJP is leading in 49 seats in the elections for the 90-member assembly. The Congress is leading in 35 seats, while the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is leading in 2 seats, with others leading in four constituencies. BSP was ahead on one seat. However, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is yet to get off the mark.
According to the CVoter exit poll, the party was projected to win 50-58 of the 90 Assembly seats, while Congress was likely to get 20-28 seats. The exit polls had predicted a vote share of 43.8 percent for Congress and 37.2 percent for the BJP.
The assembly election in Haryana was held on October 5, which recorded a voter turnout of 67.90 per cent.
